Promoting research grant capture
MCI is eager to support faculty who wish to write grant applications that involve research in China studies. We are also eager to foster research networks and connections across campus.

Civic Engagement with Local Chinese Communities (Nan Zhang)
In August 2024, MCI partnered with the Humanities Vice-Dean for Social Responsibility to fund Dr Nan Zhang, Senior Lecturer in Medical Sociology and Social Gerontology in the Department of Social Statistics to lead a project on civic engagement with local Chinese communities. Nan and her colleagues aim to develop a review paper on ageing, transnational care and digital technology, as well as a major grant proposal in this area.

Polarities and Regions UKRI Network Plus (MCI faculty affiliates Elena Barabantseva, Ed Pulford, and David Stroup)
British Council award to support UK-China collaborations in the Humanities (Peter Gries)
MCI partnered with the Universities of Exeter and Reading, and Kings College London, all members of the UK-China Humanities Alliance for Higher Education (UKCHA), in securing a total of £132,085 in Nov 2021. The funding facilitates the work of a new generation of scholars through collaborative research and networking opportunities, encouraging UK-China higher education cooperation.
