The UK-China Diplomatic Dialogue creates an informal retreat-like atmosphere in which participating British and Chinese diplomats can seek mutual understanding through the frank exchange of views on UK-China relations. They can also establish personal relationships to aid them in their future work in London and Beijing.

The Dialogue was founded in 2019 to generate mutual trust and improve UK-China relations. After Covid-19 lockdowns forced its suspension in 2020, it resumed in 2024. For more on each Dialogue, see:

Manchester was the first - and remains the only - British university to set social responsibility as a core goal. The participation of first Vice-Chancellor Nancy Rothwell and then Vice-Chancellor Duncan Ivison in student lunches with the diplomats speaks to Manchester's ongoing committment to create a better world.
