2023 UK-China International Photography Competition
This is a virtual gallery dedicated to our 2023 finalists and winners.
The theme of the 2023 UK-China International Photography Competition was 'Family Treasures’ (传家宝), with the contest running from February to April 2023. The top 30 finalist and winning photos were shortlisted out of hundreds of submissions received from China and the UK.
These were also publicly exhibited for a month in a bilingual gallery based at Alliance Manchester Business School. The exhibition launch and awards ceremony was held there on Wednesday, 3 May 2023.

'Art is My Treasure' | 艺术是我的宝贝
Life with an autoimmune illness is tough. Understandably, some people lose all hope within seconds from diagnosis. Rediscovering art has kept my spirit alive for the past 15 years, even though I am stuck in a wheelchair. My paintings are now my family’s treasures, filling the walls of our home.
患有自身免疫系统疾病的生活很艰难。可以理解的是，有些人在诊断后的几秒钟就失去了所有的希望。在过去的15年里，即使我被困在轮椅上，我的画作就是我的传家宝，挂满了我们家的墙壁。

'Grandpa’s Hookah' | 爷爷的水烟筒
Hookah is part of China's intangible cultural heritage. My 90-year-old grandpa is sitting at the door leisurely smoking with our family treasure - Yunnan hookah. He was helping the government build a road in the 1940s. At that time, he was only given a kilogram of tobacco as payment. Grandpa made this pipe with his own hands.
水烟是我国的非物质文化遗产。90多岁的爷爷坐在门口悠闲地抽着我们的传家宝——云南水烟。上世纪40年代，他帮助政府修路，当年，他只得到一公斤的烟草做为报酬。这个烟斗是爷爷亲自做的。
